How SAT scoring works
The SAT is scored on two sections - Reading and Writing, and Math - each from 200 to 800. Your total is simply the two added together, giving a range of 400 to 1600. If you take the SAT more than once, your superscore is your best Reading and Writing score plus your best Math score across all dates - which is why retaking one weaker section can lift the total a college considers.
