Online tutoring for Boston students

Boston takes school seriously. It is home to Boston Latin School, the oldest public school in the United States, and to some of the world's best-known universities on both sides of the Charles. That also means competition - for exam-school seats, independent-school places and college admission. Online tutoring gives a Boston-area student a specialist matched to their exact course or entrance test, without a trip across the city or out to the suburbs.

Lessons are live over video with a shared whiteboard, so working through a geometry proof or a chemistry problem feels like sitting together. Sessions are booked in Eastern Time around school, sports and activities.

MCAS and Massachusetts coursework

Massachusetts students take the MCAS in English, math and science. Since voters approved Question 2 in November 2024, passing MCAS is no longer a state requirement for a high school diploma, but the tests are still given and still shape what schools teach. Tutoring that follows the Massachusetts curriculum frameworks through the year helps students master the material rather than just the test.

In high school we support the courses that tend to decide a transcript: algebra and geometry, precalculus and calculus, biology, chemistry and physics, and AP classes in every core subject.

Exam schools, independent schools and entrance tests

Many Boston families aim for one of the city's exam schools - Boston Latin School, Boston Latin Academy or the John D. O'Bryant School of Mathematics & Science - or for an independent day school in the city or suburbs. Independent schools in the region commonly ask for the ISEE or SSAT, which test verbal reasoning, reading, quantitative reasoning and math, plus a writing sample.

We prepare students for those tests one-to-one, building the underlying reading and math skills first and then adding timed, test-style practice, so the preparation strengthens schoolwork too.

Online tutoring in Boston: FAQs

Do you prepare students for the ISEE and SSAT in Boston?+

Yes. We tutor both tests one-to-one: vocabulary and verbal reasoning, reading comprehension, quantitative reasoning and math, and the essay. We start from a diagnostic, focus on the sections that will move the score most, and finish with full timed practice.

Is MCAS still required to graduate in Massachusetts?+

Not as a state requirement - Question 2, approved in November 2024, removed the MCAS passing requirement for a diploma. Students still take the tests, though, and the course content behind them is what grades and later exams draw on, so that is where our tutoring focuses.

Can you help Boston high schoolers with AP courses and the SAT?+

Yes. We tutor AP courses across math, science, English and history, and prepare students for the digital SAT and the ACT with a diagnostic, targeted practice and timed sections, scheduled around the Eastern Time school day.

Do you tutor college students in the Boston area?+

We do. With Boston University, Northeastern, Boston College, UMass Boston, Harvard, MIT and Tufts all nearby, we support undergraduates in calculus, statistics, chemistry, physics, economics and programming, plus graduate admissions tests such as the GRE, GMAT, LSAT and MCAT.

How much does it cost, and is there a free trial?+

Rates depend on level and frequency - see our pricing page for current plans. The first trial lesson is free, and you can try up to three tutors at no cost before committing.
